Museum Wharf, Boston
Mark and identity program for the museum complex that houses The Children’s Museum and, for a time, the Museum of Transportation and the Computer Museum.

The symbol, representing the large milk bottle-shaped building brought to the site as a landmark was applied to signage, letterheads, goods, and festive regalia. In 2018, the name of the wharf was updated to Children’s Wharf.


Architectural Conservation Trust
Mark for an non-profit advocacy group dedicated to preserving significant architecture in Boston

Founded by Roger Webb and colleagues, ACT evolved into Preservation Massachusetts.

 

Daedalus, Ltd.
Mark for a design practice founded by Fred Golinko and Emily Hiestand, who joined forces in a partnership to develop exhibits for museums, municipalities, and cultural organizations.


 

Lily’s
Mark and identity program for a restaurant in the Faneuil Hall Market

The symbol, which was applied to signage, letterheads, menus and packages, received the Boston Art Directors Medal.

Vintage botanical illustrations of many kinds of lilies were used on the print materials.


 

Rebecca’s
Mark and idendity program for a series of cafe/restaurants developed and led by restrauteur Rebecca Caras

Rebecca’s café opened on Beacon Hill in the 1970s and expanded to many additional sites. In 1997, the thriving company was purchased by the Bewley’s Group., an Irish company that specializes in cafés and catering. Rebecca’s continues in the US as a subsidiary of Bewley’s, and Rebecca Caras herself continues to thrive as marvelous chef.

Financial Transaction Services
Mark for a firm that delivers speedy global financial services.

The symbol, which was applied to letterheads, brochures, folders, and annual reports, received the Boston Art Directors Club Silver Medal.


 

Friends of Mount Auburn
Mark and identity program for a historic memorial landscape

Created in the 19th C. as the expression of a new idea in American culture, Mt. Auburn is also a nature sanctuary. The mark was applied to newsletters, a magazine, business papers, and event announcements.

Mount Auburn on a misty morning

Mount Auburn Cemetery was created as “the expression of a new idea.” The “founders…designed a tranquil, natural setting, well outside the city” to commemorate, to inspire and comfort, and to celebrate life. The different landscape sections that have developed now “illustrate customs in American society over nearly two centuries.“ More history


 

Cody, Inc.

Mark for a film/video/audio recording and production company, led by sound engineer Stuart Cody between 1970-1986. Building on the success of his initial company, Cody founded and leads Automated Media.

Mark and identity program for the museum in its new Museum Wharf location

A playful, flexible symbol

The gumball machine concept was chosen, from many ideas, for the Museum’s new mark because it’s fun and the sphere contents could be varied easily to feature items representing many different programs, exhibits, and events. The sketches below show a few possible variations.
